A 1-year-old boy died Monday night in a Porterville-area traffic collision in which alcohol may have played a part, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash took place about 5 p.m. on Springville Avenue east of Doyle Street. The CHP said Pamela McCallsoto, 46, was southbound on Springville in a 2002 Toyota Camry and preparing to make a left turn into a driveway. Timothy McDarment, 49, was driving behind McCallsoto in a 1997 Jeep Cherokee and attempted to pass McCallsoto on the left as she made the turn . The front of the Jeep slammed into the left rear of the Toyota.
The infant was taken to Sierra View Hospital, where he died. McCallsoto and a second passenger, Angelica Davila, 22, were also taken to the hospital with moderate-to-major injuries.
The CHP said McDarment tried to run from the scene but was found nearby and arrested. He was also treated at the hospital for moderate injuries.
All parties in the crash are from Porterville.
