A nine-year investigation of a fatal shooting in Visalia ended Monday with the arrest of Alberto Vega, 39, police announced.
Ralph Perez Jr. 21, was shot early in the morning of Oct. 8, 2007 in the 4300 block of West LaVida Avenue, where officers sped to check a shots-fired call. They found Perez wounded in his driveway. Perez was rushed to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
Sgt. Damon Maurice said violent crimes detectives have investigated numerous leads and determined that the shooting was gang-related and that Vega was one of the suspects responsible. A warrant was issued for Vega on June 8 by the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office. Vega was arrested without incident and booked into the Tulare County jail. Other suspects are believed to be involved in the arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call 559-713-4160.
