A Fresno man wearing body armor and carrying a .357 magnum in a Chinatown bar was arrested late Sunday.
Sgt. Ignacio Ruiz said officers sped to the El Patio bar near F and Inyo streets about 11 p.m., where the man, later identified as Manuel Palomares, 48, was reportedly pacing back and forth while holding the large revolver. Palomares then sat down and placed the gun in his lap with about 10 customers nearby.
As police arrived, Palomares drove away, but was stopped by officers nearby. Ruiz said Palomares was searched and the gun was found inside the camouflage flak jacket. His car was also searched and ammunition and military clothing were found inside. Palomares told officers that he was carrying the gun for protection because he felt threatened. He was booked on charges of carrying a loaded, concealed weapon in public.
