A fugitive hiding in a tree was arrested by police Monday after a standoff of about a half-hour in southwest Fresno.
The man, who was not immediately identified, fled from officers who were trying to take him into custody for allegedly vandalizing his girlfriend’s car near the intersection of East George Avenue and South Tupman Street about 8 a.m., a police spokesman said.
Officers, including two with police dogs, found him hiding about 25 feet up in the tree in a neighborhood backyard.
The man initially refused to come down, but officers persuaded him to surrender.

The suspect, who also was sought on two warrants, was booked on a charge of resisting arrest after he scuffled with officers as they put him in a police car.
