Fresno police arrested two motorists carrying guns in their cars overnight, Sgt. Ignacio Ruiz reported Friday.
They were identified as Tony Bland, 54, and Misael Gonzales, 25.
Ruiz said officers Fernando Rosario and Drew Vanzant were driving near Fresno Street and Highway 99 just before midnight when they saw a black Pontiac spinning its tires. After pulling the car over, the driver, later identified as Bland, ran from the vehicle but was captured a short distance away. A search of the car uncovered a loaded .22 sawed-off rifle . Officers also recovered a sword and methamphetamine. Bland, who is on probation, was booked on charges of possessing a loaded firearm and drugs.
Shortly after midnight, Ruiz said officers Luis Nava, Dominic Morini and Tim Barnett were sent to Fresno Street and Van Ness Avenue to investigate a report that several people were passed out in a car stopped in the middle of the roadway. They found Gonzales, a gang member also identified as “Pee Wee,” in possession of a loaded .38 caliber revolver. Gonzales is on state parole for for assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into Fresno County Jail on weapons charges as well as a gang enhancement charge.
