A tow truck driver was killed Monday night while assisting a stranded motorist on Highway 41.
The driver, later identified as Baudelio Perez, 58, of Fresno, was loading a Cadillac that was on the shoulder of southbound 41 as it merges with Highway 99 when the Cadillac and Perez were hit by another car, CHP Sgt. Jeffrey Cipolla said.
Perez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the second car was cooperating with officers, Cipolla said. The driver told officers he did not see the tow truck or the Cadillac on the side of the highway.
Cipolla said neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor.
Two other cars pulled over and may have been hit by debris, Cipolla said.
The CHP responded to the call at 9:57 p.m. Officers are investigating.
