An early morning burglar ruined lunch Tuesday for customers of the Don Taqueria Taco restaurant in Visalia when he scrambled into the attic of the business and it took police eight hours – right through the lunch hour – to get him out.
The incident started about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday when a burglar alarm went off at the restaurant at Houston Avenue and Ben Maddox Way.
Officers got there quickly and spotted the burglar trying to get out the back. When he saw police, he ran back through the restaurant and broke a front window to try to escape, said Sgt. Damon Maurice. But police were also out front.
Police set up a perimeter and the burglar climbed into the attic of the restaurant, located in a strip mall with a common attic shared by four or five other businesses.
Never miss a local story.
Police spent hours searching the attic before they caught the man, Maurice said. He was identified as Todd Finch, 31, and was arrested on suspicion of burglary and resisting arrest.
The strip mall was closed until police caught the man at 12:50 p.m. – right at the end of the lunch hour.
