Dozens of law enforcement officers descended on a neighborhood in central Fresno Thursday morning after a driver attempted to speed away from a traffic stop.
Two males and a female were taken into custody during the incident, which ended shortly after 1 p.m. in the 3000 block of West Bellaire Way. California Highway Patrol spokesman Sean Duncan said the incident began when an officer attempted to stop a driver near Clinton Avenue and Highway 99 for the minor infraction of not wearing a seat belt. The driver and a passenger jumped out of the car at Sussex Way and Clinton and ran. As the officer tried to pursue, the female in the back seat jumped into the driver’s seat and sped away. She was arrested near Highway 99 and Ashlan Avenue. The two males were also taken into custody after Fresno police, CHP officers and sheriff’s deputies, assisted by helicopters and police dogs arrived and surrounded the home on Bellaire.
