A man was found dead north of Parlier on Wednesday night, the apparent victim of gunshot wounds, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.
The body was found by the California Highway Patrol near Lincoln and Newmark avenues around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday. Officers originally thought he’d been hit by a car, but then they discovered multiple gunshot wounds. A motive is unknown.
The man was identified Thursday by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office as Ruben Martinez, 56, of Sanger. He was last seen by family members at 7 a.m. Wednesday and was possibly walking north on Newmark from Parlier later in the day.
This marks the 12th homicide of 2016 in Fresno County.
