Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies Wednesday morning arrested a man after a pursuit ended at Blackstone and McKinley avenues with several injuries.
Stephen Yates, 36, was booked into Fresno County Jail and his female companion was cited for possession of what appeared to be heroin, sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” a weeping Yates said as he was placed in a sheriff’s SUV.
The incident began about 10 a.m. at Maroa and Dakota avenues in the Fig Garden area. Botti said the suspect was driving erratically when a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop. Yates sped away toward Blackstone.
At Clinton Avenue, he drove through a red light and clipped a vehicle. Yates stepped out of the Lexus he was driving. When the deputy jumped out, Yates got back in the Lexus and sped south on Blackstone. At McKinley Avenue he ran another red light and struck a pickup, causing it to flip on its side. The pickup then hit a small car, Botti said.
Yates tried to run off but was caught by deputies.
None of the injuries from the collisions were life-threatening, Botti said.
The Fresno Police Department is investigating the crashes.
