Man killed in Porterville shooting identified

The Tulare County Sheriff’s Department identified a man found dead in Porterville Friday as Manuel Christopher Acosta, 35, of Bakersfield. Acosta’s body was found in his vehicle on Highway 190 near Road 284 around 10:45 p.m.

Fresno police rescue woman held against will in home

A man was arrested after allegedly holding a woman against her will and assaulting her in the 3300 block of East Grant Street on Saturday afternoon. The man already had a warrant for his arrest for a similar incident earlier in the week with the same woman, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said.

Hospital owner jailed, suspected of stealing from senior citizens

A Fresno convalescent hospital owner was arrested July 21 after an investigation found he allegedly was stealing money from residents’ trust accounts to cover his own debt. Thousands of dollars were unlawfully transferred from trust accounts to the hospital’s business account, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office found.
