Man dies after being shot, crashing into parked cars

A man died Wednesday after being shot and crashing his car into some parked cars in central Fresno, the Fresno Police department said. Officers responded to the Enclave Apartment Homes near Ashlan and Feland avenues around 5:30 p.m. for two shots that were heard in the area, Lt. Mindy Casto said.

Clovis police capture stabbing suspect after 11-hour standoff

A man was detained by Clovis police after an 11-hour standoff in an apartment building south of the Clovis Rodeo Grounds Tuesday. The suspect was later identified as Evan Wooten, 33. Police said he was being treated at a hospital, adding that charges are pending. A police K-9 unit apprehended him as he hid in the apartment’s attic, police said.

Girl held in social media threat to shoot up Fresno schools

Fresno police arrested a female juvenile Monday evening who is suspected of posting social media threats to shoot up local schools, including Fresno High School. Fresno Unified officials said they became aware of the social media threats late Monday and immediately contacted Fresno police.

Back to square one in finding home for Fresno child molester

Owners of 292 homes in Fresno County say they won’t rent to Jeffrey Snyder, a sexually violent predator who has won his release from Coalinga State Hospital. After residents protested the placement of Snyder in a two-story home in a northwest Fresno neighborhood, a judge suggested during a hearing Tuesday that officials should look for a place in a rural, less populated area not close to a school or a park.

Fresno police chief issues warning after attack on CHP car

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer vowed that police will "send a message" to the people who vandalized a California Highway Patrol vehicle Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, in southwest Fresno. Dyer said officers are working to identify the vandals and will make arrests, issue citations and "tow as many vehicles as we can." He said the department has a plan in place to make sure similar challenges to law enforcement in the future are handled differently.

Once a sexually violent predator has served his time, where can he live?

After spending 10 years locked up at Coalinga State Hospital, child molester Jeffrey Snyder, 61, has been cleared by a judge to be returned to society. But finding a home for him could prove difficult. Outrage from residents has caused one property owner to withdraw a northwest Fresno home from consideration. A judge will hold a hearing on Tuesday to determine the best place for Snyder.
