A man was arrested for filing a false police report after allegedly calling police about an armed robbery at the Schoolhouse Restaurant and Tavern in Sanger Monday evening, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.
The Tulare County Sheriff’s Department identified a man found dead in Porterville Friday as Manuel Christopher Acosta, 35, of Bakersfield. Acosta’s body was found in his vehicle on Highway 190 near Road 284 around 10:45 p.m.
Two women from Washington state were injured Monday as they tried to evade police after a bungled burglary attempt in Squaw Valley, Visalia police said. Police said the car they were driving was stolen out of Redding, California.

A Fresno convalescent hospital owner was arrested July 21 after an investigation found he allegedly was stealing money from residents’ trust accounts to cover his own debt. Thousands of dollars were unlawfully transferred from trust accounts to the hospital’s business account, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office found.
