Jason Meyers called it in mid-October.
The defending World of Outlaws Sprint Car series champion from Clovis said he only needed to finish in the main events the rest of the season to clinch a second straight title.
He did a little more than that, winning five straight feature races to nail down the series championship heading into this week's final two races at the Lowes Foods World Finals on the Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C.
Meyers, who last year locked up his first championship in dramatic fashion by winning the last two races, finished third Friday with today's finale left.
Meyers came into the World Finals holding a safe 264-point lead on second-place Donny Schatz with 20-time champion Steve Kinser third with 271 points.
Schatz widened his runner-up margin over 20-time champion Kinser by winning Friday's 30-lap main, holding off Sammy Swindell in a close race to the checkered flag. Kinser was 11th.
Today's season-ending event will be telecast live on the Speed cable channel starting at 5 p.m. PDT.
