Defending champions Chelby Cooke of Bakersfield Christian and Buchanan's Kathryn Ashford and Megan Lee were awarded the top seeds for the Central Section Individual Girls Tennis Championships on Monday.
A championship rematch in singles looms with Garces' Gracie Jacobs seeded No. 2. Cooke beat Jacobs 6-1, 6-2 for the title last season.
Memorial's Sydney Perotti is seeded third for the individual playoffs that begin Saturday and continue Nov. 4-5 at Buchanan.
Ashford and Lee -- who downed Memorial's Robin Draper and Perotti 6-0, 6-3 for the doubles title last year -- have a former champion to contend with in Bullard's Pookie Gonzalez and partner Claire Jaramishian. Gonzalez teamed with Ashley Valdez to win the doubles title in 2009. Garces' Zoe Tucker and Crimson Hochhalter are seeded third.
In the team championships, Tri-River Athletic Conference winner Buchanan is the No. 1 seed in Division I, where it was the runner-up to Clovis West last season. Garces is seeded second and Bullard third, with all three drawing first-round byes when the playoffs start today.
Other top seeds included Clovis North (Division II), Immanuel (D-III), Bakersfield Christian (D-IV), Liberty-Madera Ranchos (D-V) and Orange Cove (D-VI), all of which are defending champions in their divisions
Immanuel has won five straight section titles overall, the previous four coming in D-IV.
Orange Cove is in a two-team bracket, and its final against Sierra Pacific is set for today. The rest of the team playoffs continue with quarterfinals Thursday, semifinals Nov. 1 and finals Nov. 3.
