Sophomore defender Lauren Lindstrom's goal with a minute left in overtime gave Fresno State a 3-2 soccer victory against Cal Poly on Friday in San Luis Obispo.
Lindstrom scored her second goal of the season on a rebound of Molly Nizzoli's shot after a corner kick.
Fresno State (5-3-2) won the first meeting with the Mustangs (6-4-1) since 2006. The Bulldogs were outshot 15-10, but had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Callie Hancock's goal in the 6th minute was equaled by Cal Poly's Tiffany Gummow in the first half.
Laura Dodd gave Fresno State a lead in the 58th minute before Gummow tied it again a minute later on a direct kick from just over 18 yards out.
Bulldogs keeper Katie DeVault made four saves.
- Anisa Guajardo (Clovis West High) scored her team-leading seventh goal for No. 8 Pepperdine, which defeated Lamar 6-0. The Waves visit Fresno State at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Boutillier advances to round of 16 in Texas
Fresno State's Remi Boutillier won a pair of matches to advance to the round of 16 at the 11th annual Baylor-HEB Invitational at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
Boutillier, seeded fourth and ranked 47th nationally, beat Beau Bernstein of Texas-Pan American 6-3, 6-1 and Jesse Kiuru of Maryland 6-2, 6-3. He faces Oklahoma's Dane Webb today.
The Bulldogs' Nick Papac lost his first-round match to Carlin Murray of Louisiana-Lafayette 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, but bounced back to beat Luis Hernandez of Laredo 6-3, 3-6, 10-6, then got a bye into the third round of the consolation bracket. He faces Felipe Frattini of New Mexico State today.
"I played a bunch of individual tournaments this summer so it felt good to get out there and play for the Bulldogs again and get my sophomore season started," Papac said. "I also really enjoyed playing doubles with Remi."
Boutillier and Papac opened with an 8-3 win over Luis Ramirez and Matej Stakne of New Mexico State, but lost 8-6 in the second round to Oklahoma's Tsvetan Mihov and Peerakit Siributwong.
Bulldogs equestrian team falls in opener
The Fresno State equestrian team lost 16-3 to South Carolina in its opener in Blythewood, S.C.
Senior Nicole Roworth (equitation on the flat), sophomore Lauren Crivelli (horsemanship) and sophomore Sonya Koch (reining) scored the only points for the Bulldogs. Senior Kimberly Hewson Budnik had a team-high 77 in equitation over fences.
Fresno State travels to Dover, Del., to meet Delaware State and Texas A&M today.
