Freshman goalkeeper Katie DeVault recorded her fifth shutout and sophomore midfielder Morgan Castain scored her fifth goal as the Fresno State women's soccer team blanked Air Force 2-0 on Sunday in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Sophomore defender Lauren Lindstrom broke the ice for the Bulldogs (4-3-2) in the 15th minute by heading in a corner kick. It was Lindstrom's first goal of the season and the fourth assist for senior midfielder Molly Nizzoli.
The 1-0 score held up until Castain's unassisted shot from 20 yards with 4 minutes remaining.
Meyers sixth but keeps points lead
Defending champion Jason Meyers of Clovis maintained his World of Outlaws points lead with a sixth-place finish Saturday at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn.
Though Steve Kinser won the race, he still trails Meyers by 98 points.
Meyers set a Clay County Fair Speedway track record Friday in qualifying with a time of 13.074 seconds. He crashed in the dash and placed eighth in the feature but won the Hard Charger Award.
- Kyle Vanderpool outdistanced Jim Birges to win the 30-lap Super Modified feature Saturday night at Madera Speedway's Harvest Classic. Vanderpool was the No. 1 qualifier with a lap time of 12.666 seconds.
In USAC Sprint Cars, Scott Pierovich set the fastest qualifying time (13.640) before going on to dominate the feature. Chad Nichols won the BRCA Midgets class.
Sunbirds welcome 5 new inductees
Fresno Pacific will induct five new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame today during a 6 p.m. ceremony at the Special Events Center.
The inductees are Ron Adams (men's basketball player and coach), Rafael De Cicco (men's soccer), Lin Gao (volleyball), Randy Pfost (men's basketball) and athletic director Dennis Janzen (volleyball coach).
CVC gets big sweep in volleyball
Central Valley Christian High swept Bakersfield Christian 25-22, 25-15, 25-21 on Saturday in a matchup of The Bee's top two Central Section Division IV teams.
The Cavaliers, also ranked No. 6 overall in the section, improved to 6-1 this season.
Ashley Vander Tuig had 11 kills, five blocks and five digs for CVC. Danielle Nederend added eight kills and 13 digs, and Tori Moons had 24 assists.
Maciel wins Aleman boxing event
Fresno PAL 17-year-old Moises Maciel decisioned 19-year-old Anthony Smith of Fresno to win the men's open 135-pound bout at Saturday's Mexican Independence Day Championships hosted by Aleman Boxing Fresno.
