Selma's Alex Cisneros can take aim at his third consecutive CIF State Wrestling Championship in a third different weight class after capturing the 125-pound title at the Central Sequoia League championship meet.
It was one of 13 league championship tournaments that served as qualifiers for next week's Division I and II tournaments, the next step in the state championships process to be held at East Bakersfield and Dinuba, respectively.
Cisneros defeated Coalinga's Christian Jaime 17-5 in the final, one of eight wrestlers for the state fourth-ranked Bears to win CSL titles. He was the 105-pound state champ as a freshman and won at 112 last year.
State No. 1 Clovis won the Tri-River Athletic Conference, advancing all 14 of its wrestlers including league champs Jonas Gaytan (112), Brady Bersano (140), Blake Thompson (152), Adrian Salas (160), Dakota Gordon (189), Taylor Ferguson (215) and Nick Nevills (285).
Never miss a local story.
Other league champions included Madera in the County/Metro Athletic Conference (with nine individual winners), Madera South in the North Yosemite League (seven individual champs) and Lemoore in the West Yosemite League (10 individual champs).
Porterville won the East Yosemite League (seven individual champs), Washington the North Sequoia League (eight individual champs), Orange Cove the East Sequoia/Sierra League (five individual champs) and Dos Palos the West Sequoia/Sierra League (five individual champs).
