Preseason Offensive Player of the Year -- Kendall Brock, running back, Clovis West, 5-10, 185, senior: Many said he was the Central Section's best running back last year, when The Bee All-Star averaged 8.7 yards a carry while rushing for 1,608 yards and 14 touchdowns in essentially nine games. Now the Nevada-bound athlete is healthier and ready to fire out of the Golden Eagles' new-look shotgun wing-T.
Preseason Defensive Player of the Year -- Christian Parra, linebacker, Buchanan, 6-1, 210, senior: A year after he played end, Parra shifts to linebacker and the spotlight follows him. He was a major contributor to the Bears' TRAC championship and 10-1 overall season in 2009.

Best barbershop banter: A lot of buzz about three coaches -- one new, one familiar and one an icon. The new: Mike Parsons, the fifth coach in five years and eighth in 13 at Clovis West, which has won eight section titles since 1985. Parsons, a Chowchilla grad who led Modesto Christian to a 15-0 record and the 2009 CIF State Small Schools championship, arrives with a twist (shotgun wing-T). The familiar: Clovis East's Tim Murphy, the section's most successful coach of the decade (77-22, two section titles, two runners-up, six TRAC championships), not only returns after stepping away one season for personal reasons, he's back with firepower. And the icon: Clovis North's Tim Simons, who established his legacy at Clovis High, has now rocked the Broncos through their infancy and marches his program into the TRAC with its first senior class, yet a cast of accomplished athletes.
