Fresno fighter Frausto wins by knockout in MMA bout
Fresno's Zoila Frausto scored her first professional knockout, overwhelming world champion Rosi Sexton of England in the second round of their ultimate fight Thursday in Louisville, Ky.
Frausto, who went to Madera High, flattened Sexton with a hard knee to the chin, then finished it with a flurry of punches 2 minutes into the second round.
Frausto is 7-1 in MMA fights. Sexton (10-2) had a five-match winning streak snapped.

Fuego slips past Cougars
Fabricio Codeceira scored on a penalty kick in the 67th minute and the Fresno Fuego made it stand up for a 1-0 victory over the BYU Cougars in a Premier Development League soccer match at Chukchansi Park.
Fresno improved to 4-4-2 with its second straight victory.
"The second half of the schedule tilts in our favor now," Fuego coach Scott Alcorn said. "We have to run the table to have any chance of making the playoffs."
The goal was set up when Milton Blanco drew a penalty call after dribbling into the box and getting his legs taken out by a Cougars defender.
Bulldogs hammer thrower takes 4th at Junior Nationals
Fresno State freshman J'Quyra Moncur-Blue had two legal hammer throws in six attempts, but one of them sailed 177 feet, 10 inches to earn fourth place at the Junior National Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
Shelby Ashe won with a throw of 199-4. Moncur-Blue finished sixth at the nationals last year.
Local youth soccer team qualifies for national tourney
California Odyssey's U15 Red girls soccer team has secured a berth in this summer's National Cup IX and National Collegiate Showcase after winning a qualifier this week.
Cal Odyssey won the U14 Premier Group at a regional that wrapped up Tuesday in Modesto. In the regional final, the Odyssey beat Lamorinda United 95 5-3.
The National Cup, which serves as US Club Soccer's championship tournament, will run July 24-27 in Virginia Beach, Va. The showcase runs concurrently and is designed to help players be seen by a network of college coaches and scouts.
Clovis player wins USTA NorCal event in Reno
Dennis Daddino of Clovis beat Ben Lutes of Fresno 7-5, 6-4 at a recent USTA NorCal tournament for players with 4.0 national tennis ratings at the Lakeridge Tennis Club in Reno, Nev.
Lutes and Brian Mosby of Fresno won in doubles, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2 against the Reno duo of Gary Wardle and George Bonari.
More awards handed out at City/County All-Star game
City's Kim Saldate of Central High and County's Briana Armiento of Madera received the Jenny Eller Inspirational Player awards after the City/County All-Star softball game won 2-0 by County on Wednesday.
The award is named after the late Bullard player, a former All-Star, who died of leukemia.
Lemoore crowns champs, top athletes at track meets
The USA Wings were named outstanding team at the second meet in the Run for the Dream Summer Series at Lemoore High.
Outstanding athletes were: Dan Foss, masters; Aris Borjas, open; Ellie Aguilera, high school; Joey Souza, middle school; and Kyra Bailey, elementary school.
The Valley Coyotes were best at the first meet. Outstanding athletes: Nancy Oliveira, masters; Eric Fossen, open; Philmore Daley, high school; Trevor Groom, middle school; and Kelsey Steele, elementary school.
