State top-ranked Clovis puts a dual meet winning streak of 35 on the line tonight when it hosts No. 7 Buchanan in a clash of two of California's premier wrestling programs.
The Tri-River Athletic Conference duel -- featuring the state champions from 2008 (Clovis) and 2006 (Buchanan) -- is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Clovis' South Gym.
Of the 28 wrestlers expected to compete tonight, 21 are ranked in the Central Section. Sixteen also are state ranked.
Two of the best potential matchups of the night are at 135 pounds, where Clovis' Alec Dieter (No. 1 in the section and No. 2 in the state) takes on Buchanan's Spencer Hill (No. 2 section, honorable mention state), and at 171 pounds, where Clovis' Zach Nevills (No. 2 section, No. 3 state) will face Buchanan's Martin Fabbian (No. 3 section, No. 4 state).
Other intriguing matches include Clovis' Jonas Gaytan (No. 3 section, No. 5 state) against Buchanan's Adrian Gonzalez (No. 5 section) at 103 pounds, Buchanan's Damien Arredondo (No. 5 section, honorable mention state) against Clovis' Sonny Cervantes (No. 6 section, honorable mention state) at 130 and Buchanan's Matt Negrete (No. 4 section, No. 5 state) against Blake Thompson (No. 5 section, honorable mention state) at 152.
Last year, 2,000-plus fans packed into Buchanan's gym to watch the Cougars prevail 31-20.

Clovis alum commits to Fullerton
Former Clovis wrestler Brett Sanchez has given an oral commitment to Cal State Fullerton.
Sanchez was a two-time state medalist for the Cougars, placing seventh as a junior at 189 pounds and fifth as a senior at 215 pounds for the state-title-winning team in 2008.
Sanchez currently wrestles for Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Ore., where he was an All-American after finishing seventh at 197 pounds at the 2009 National Junior College Athletic Association championships.
