With the return of Big Wins Day, Dec. 9 is the perfect time for holiday shopping in Clovis.
For every $10 spent in retail stores, grocery stores, gas stations and restaurants Wednesday, Dec. 9, customers can earn one raffle ticket for a chance to win dozens of prizes.
Between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., customers must bring their receipts for purchases made Wednesday to Sierra Vista Mall’s Center Court, where they will be issued raffle tickets for the night’s drawing.
The drawing will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sierra Vista Mall’s Community Park in front of Sierra Vista Cinemas 16. Winners must be present.
“This is a city-wide promotion to encourage people to shop in Clovis,” said Shawn Miller, business development manager for the City of Clovis. “The raffle prizes are awesome. There are going to be TVs, washers and dryers and lots of other prizes.”
The promotion was popular in 2008 and 2009, so the City of Clovis, Clovis Chamber of Commerce, the Business Organization of Old Town and local merchants collaborated to bring the event back, with hopes of injecting an additional $1 million into the local economy.
In light of the drought, event organizers have added an additional twist this year.
In addition to the drawing, anyone who saved the mandated 36 percent on their water will be entered into a separate drawing featuring three complete grass replacements from SYNLAWN. The prizes include removal of old turf, all materials and labor.
For the water savings drawing, customers must present their City of Clovis Water Bill. One ticket will be given away to each customer for every billing cycle between May and October 2015.
“This is truly a community-wide event,” explained Mayor Nathan Magsig. “It’s a great example of the entire community having fun together and supporting the local economy together. And it’s our way of giving back.”
