Clovis West's Darian Owens named Cal-Hi Sports' NorCal player of week

Clovis West High's Darian Owens has been named Cal-Hi Sports' Northern California Defensive Player of the Week.

The junior safety intercepted four passes in the Golden Eagles' season-opening 49-39 win over Merced Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium. That's a school-record, according to Central Section historian Bob Barnett.

Owens, who has received scholarship offers from USC, Cal, Washington and Oklahoma, also scored on a 41-yard run and an 83-yard pass from Kordel Hoffman.

While Central Section teams are associated with the state's South Region for bowl purposes and playoffs in other sports, Cal-Hi Sports is choosing to link the section with the North for its weekly Players of the Week recognition.
