CHP, Clovis Unified back bicycle, pedestrian safety effort

The California Highway Patrol and the Clovis Unified School District administration are partnering Tuesday for Walk to School Day.

The event will begin at 7 a.m. and include more than 1,000 students from Clovis East High, Reyburn Intermediate, Oraze Elementary and Reagan Elementary schools. Parents, teachers, CHP officers and the CHP mascot, Chipper, will walk or ride bicycles to school along with students. CHP officers will be on hand to monitor crosswalks.

The goal is to heighten pedestrian and bicycle safety through education. CHP recently received a grant for the project from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to educate and enforce pedestrian and bicycle safety.
