Traffic appeared to flow smoothly Sunday despite thousands of runners on major roads in northeast Fresno and Clovis, race officials and police said.
Friant Road and Shepherd Avenue were closed for the annual Two Cities Marathon & Half during significant portions of the day Sunday.
Sherrie Flynn, a race director, said she spent the day near the race's command center and was advised of no significant traffic issues.
About 20 electronic message boards notifying motorists of the road closures were placed on the affected roadways eight to 10 days before the race, she said, so most drivers should have known the race was taking place.
Never miss a local story.
In addition, race officials hand delivered notifications and mailed advisories to residents along the routes before Sunday's half-marathon and marathon.
Shepherd Avenue opened by 11:30 a.m. and Friant Road was opened by 2 p.m., she said.
