Federal regulators announced a $75,000 settlement Tuesday with one of Fresno's biggest rental companies over allegations that tenants were not warned about lead paint hazards in 12 of its apartments.
The Environmental Protection Agency said J.D. Home Rentals will pay a $7,500 fine and spend $67,500 replacing lead-laden windows with energy efficient ones during the next year.
Inspectors found 31 violations at 12 properties in Fresno and Clovis, the agency said. More than half the violations were in units that housed children younger than 6, who are most vulnerable to developmental and neurological harm from lead paint.
