Chloe Waldner captured her third straight national title as the iCAN Junior Triathlon Club of Fresno finished second at the USA Youth Championships in Chula Vista.
Waldner placed first in the 10-year-old girls division in 17 minutes, 59 seconds for her fourth overall national championship.
Four other iCAN members won their divisions: 13-15 boys, Jordan Ruffino, fifth overall; U7 girls, Hope Gutierrez; U8 girls, Reagan Nau; U9 girls, Giselee Uribe; and U10 girls, Makayla Becker.
Clovis U-14 water polo team places 13th at Jr. Olympics
The Clovis U-14 girls water polo team went 6-3 at the Junior Olympics in Irvine and was 13th out of 48 teams.
The team was coached by Milorad Pavlovic and assistant Kelsie Harvey.

Monsters to host tryouts
The Fresno Monsters will have tryout camps Aug. 18-21 at Gateway Ice Center to solidify rosters for their North American and Western States hockey league teams.
An all-star game will be played on the final day. Admission is $2, with 50% of sales going to the Fresno Junior Hockey Club.
- The Monsters' golf tournament is Aug. 26 at Riverbend Golf Club in Madera. Early registration is $100, or $400 per foursome, by Aug. 16. Dinner is $25 for those not playing.

Local track and field club captures State Games crown
Addyson Smith won the discus, javelin and shot put to pace the Central Valley Phoenix Track Club's girls 12-year-old Midgets to a title at the State Games of America in San Diego.
Brynley Bower won the 100 meters and long jump and was second in the high jump for the club's midgets.
Mong Xiong (17-Young Men) and Carlos Hernandez (14-Youth Boys) won in javelin. Bryson Smith was first in 8-Bantam Boys javelin and shot put.
The team received runner-up finishes from Kevin Chavira (15-Intermediate Boys) in the 1,500 and 3,000; Taylor Darnley (16-Young Women) in the 400 hurdles; Isaiah Dittmar (14-Youth Boys) in the high jump, triple jump and javelin; Marcelino Dittmar (18-Young Men) in the javelin; Smith in the high jump; and Kayla Verzosa (15-Intermediate Girls) in the 3,000.
Local golfers qualify for EWGA Championship event
Debbie Trantham and Mary Moore of the Fresno-San Joaquin Chapter qualified for the Executive Women's Golf Association Championship on Oct. 22 in Palm Desert.
Trantham qualified in First Flight and Moore in Fourth at Fort Ord Golf Club in Seaside. The championship is the largest women's amateur golf tournament of its kind, according to the association.
Dos Palos High hires new AD
Dos Palos High named Nikki Roberts to replace Bill Van Worth as athletic director.
Van Worth retired in June after 34 years at the school, including the past 20 as athletic director.
