One person was killed and one injured after a four-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon in Merced County, authorities said Thursday.
A 42-year-old Madera man was driving a truck and trailer about 2:15 p.m. on Highway 165 north of Johnson Avenue in Hilmar when he rear-ended a pickup, the California Highway Patrol said.
The pickup hit a car, which hit another truck and trailer. The pickup driver, a 71-year-old Hilmar woman, suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center of Modesto where she died. Her name was not made public pending notification of relatives.
The car driver had moderate injuries and also was taken to Doctors Medical Center. She is in stable condition. The other two drivers were not injured.
Clinic offers free vaccinations, exams
Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, in conjunction with the Fresno Unified School District, will be holding a clinic offering free Tdap vaccinations and sports physicals from 9 a.m. to noon today at Hoover High School.
The clinic is only open to students within the Fresno Unified School District.
Clovis road projects will slow traffic
Motorists traveling through central Clovis will have to contend with a major road project over the next two months.
On Monday, work will start on Clovis Avenue between Shaw Avenue and 10th Street through central Clovis.
The project will include lane shifts and lane closures through Sept. 19 during daytime and night hours, city officials say.
Drivers are encouraged to change their routes, give themselves enough time to travel the area or avoid the road altogether.
Benefit to help Tulare County food bank
The Central Valley California Restaurant Association Food Fight Against Hunger on Sunday will benefit the Tulare County FoodLink food bank.
The event runs 2-6 p.m. at the Visalia Holiday Inn and Conference Center at 9000 W. Airport Drive.
Tickets are $25 per person and are available at the door.
Food and drink tasting stations, and hors d'oeuvres prepared by local restaurants, winemakers and micro breweries will be available.
A Top Chef competition also will be judged during the benefit.
