On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice was declared between the Allies nations and Germany during World War I. The day was named Armistice Day and veterans who served during World War I were commemorated. Later the name was changed to Veterans Day to honor all veterans.

Thank You Drive
Girl Scouts Troop 2385 is collecting care package items to be sent to military members serving overseas. The public may bring donations of toiletries, prepackaged snacks, pocket games, boxed food, baby wipes books and more to Traffic Depot, Inc., 1460 Clovis Ave. in the Barnyard Shopping Center. The hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Thank-you cards, letters of appreciation and drawn pictures are also encouraged. The troop will collect items through Nov. 11.

Veterans Day Pancake Breakfast
Local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will serve breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11 in Clovis Veterans Memorial District, 808 4th St., Clovis. The breakfast, consisting of pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee, milk and juice is presented by VFW Post 3225 and its auxiliary. Breakfast costs $7.
Documentaries and Stories of Service
War documentaries and Valley PBS “Stories of Service” may be viewed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 in the Clovis Veterans Memorial District Auditorium, 808 4th St., Clovis.
Local veterans will display their memorabilia, including uniforms, photos and other remembrances from their lives and the wars they served in. The items will be on display from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 in the Veterans Room at Clovis Veterans Memorial District, Veterans Room, 808 4th St., Clovis.
Clovis Community Band will perform a plethora of patriotic tunes beginning at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11 in the Liberty Ballroom in Clovis Veterans Memorial District,808 4th St., Clovis.
Wreaths Across America BBQ Dinner
Each year, Clovis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3225 lays holiday wreaths upon the graves of fallen veterans as part of the Wreaths Across America program. Volunteers adorn the headstones of veterans at Academy, Red Bank and Clovis cemeteries. Wreath ceremonies will be held Dec. 12.
To raise funds for these wreaths, a barbecue dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13 in Clovis Veterans Memorial District, 808 4th St., Clovis. A silent auction and dessert auction will be held.
