A 72-year-old man who apparently had limited vision was struck and killed by a car early Friday in northeast Fresno, police reported.
The collision occurred about 5 a.m. at the intersection of Maple and St. Andrew avenues.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Gurbakhsh Chauhan.
Lt. Joe Gomez said the driver of a Mercedes heading southbound on Maple reportedly did not see Chauhan in time to stop, striking him. She immediately stopped to check on Chauhan and called 911.

Chauhan was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
Neighbors reported that Chauhan was partially blind, used a cane and often walked in the neighborhood early in the morning. Friday, he was crossing Maple heading west on the south side of St. Andrew. He was in the southbound No. 1 lane of Maple when he was hit by the right front of the Mercedes.
The police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the fatality.
Police did not identify the driver.
