A California Highway Patrol helicopter crew has rescued a Southern California hiker who fell ill in the Bear Creek area southeast of Edison Lake.
The CHP said Kelan Poorman, 56, of Oceanside was dehydrated and showing flu-like symptoms. He activated his locator beacon July 28. A Fresno County Sheriff’s Office team reached him that day on the ground. Because of thunderstorms in the area, the helicopter didn’t come until the following day.
The copter arrived about 6 a.m. and hoisted Poorman to safety. He was taken to an ambulance that drove him to a hospital in Mammoth.
