Two people are dead after a driver ran a stop sign and collided with a pickup, Hanford police said.
They are Hector Gomez, 34, and Maria Gomez, 67, both of Hanford, the Kings County Coroner’s Office said.
About 4:30 a.m. Friday, Hanford police received a call about a collision at 11th and Idaho avenues in the industrial area of south Hanford.
Officers discovered that a GMC pickup was heading south on 11th Avenue when it hit a Toyota Prius heading east on Idaho Avenue.
It appears that the Toyota did not stop for the stop sign and was hit by the pickup, police said.
The Gomezes, who were in the Toyota, died at the scene.
The two people in the pickup suffered minor injuries.
It does not appear that alcohol or drugs are a factor in the collision, police said.
