A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer injured after another vehicle hit him Tuesday evening on Highway 180 in Fresno was identified Wednesday.
Officer Tanner Bean, 28, of Hanford, injured a leg and hit his head in the crash, CHP public information officer Axel Reyes said. His recovery is expected to take several months.
Shortly before 5:30 p.m., Bean was in the process of responding to a collision when he was struck by a red pickup that turned left from the fast lane of eastbound Highway 180 into the left shoulder, where Bean was located. The motorcycle hit the center divider and went over it, leaving Bean on the eastbound part of the highway, near Clovis Avenue.
Bean was conscious and talking with emergency responders. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
The driver of the red pickup has not been arrested or cited for anything as the collision is still being investigated, Reyes said.
