A mother ran over her 2-year-old as she backed out of her home near Sanger Sunday, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Cipolla said.
Cipolla said the accident happened around 6:11 p.m. at a home on South Del Rey Avenue near Central Avenue, southwest of Sanger.
Cipolla said the family had just arrived home and the children were unloading items from their minivan when the 2 year old went out of sight. As the mother prepared to leave once again, she backed up into the child.
The child suffered severe trauma and died at the scene, Cipolla said.
Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor. The CHP is investigating the accident.
