Peace officers killed in the line of duty in Fresno County were remembered Thursday in a somber ceremony under gray skies.
The ceremony was held at the Peace Officers Memorial in Courthouse Park in downtown Fresno. The names of 59 men and women from city, county, state and federal agencies who died while on duty are etched onto the granite face of the memorial. Some names date to 1889.
The national Peace Officers Memorial Day will be held on May 15 as part of National Police Week. Officers will have black bands over their badges that week to honor those who died while serving.
Tulare County held its commemoration on Wednesday. Madera County will conduct its ninth annual Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony at noon on Tuesday at Courthouse Park in Madera.
