Two people are dead and another injured after a head-on crash on Highway 145 east of Madera late Wednesday night.
At 11:48 p.m., a 2012 Ford Escape small-sized SUV traveling west on Highway 145, just east of Road 29, at about 55 mph drifted into the eastbound lane and collided into a 2000 GMC Jimmy medium-sized SUV traveling about 55 mph, the California Highway Patrol said.
Both drivers, a 42-year-old man in the Escape and a 23-year-old man in the Jimmy, died, the CHP said. A passenger in the right front seat of the Jimmy, Travis Adams, 26, suffered major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
The names of the dead were not released pending notification of relatives, the CHP said.
Alcohol may have contributed to the cause of the accident, the CHP said.
