A fire in a two-story downtown Fresno home Friday forced some family members to escape by creating ropes out of bedding sheets.
The two-alarm fire erupted around 11 a.m. Friday and destroyed the home on Divisadero and U streets, Battalion Chief Tony Escobedo said. Firefighters arrived to the sight of people shimmying out of the second-floor windows, and then rescued other family members inside the home and put out the fire.
Escobedo said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.
