Valley Health Team has been awarded $650,000 in federal Health and Human Services funds to operate a community health center in Kingsburg at the old district hospital.
The grant is one of 23 announced Tuesday for community health centers in California to increase access to health services. The HHS grants totaled $14.8 million.
Valley Health Team will operate the new Kingsburg clinic in the building that once housed the hospital district’s outpatient clinic. The hospital closed in 2010. Valley Health Team hopes to open the Kingsburg clinic by September, said CEO Soyla Griffin.
The Kingsburg clinic will be the latest for Valley Health Team, which has community health centers in San Joaquin, Kerman, Firebaugh and Clovis. Later this year, it will begin construction on a clinic at Ashlan and Cornelia avenues in Fresno and is in the process of opening a school-based clinic at Tranquility High School.
Valley Health Team operates federally qualified health centers that serve patients on a sliding fee scale and see patients regardless of ability to pay.
