The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating a helicopter crash that occurred in Tulare County earlier this week.
The pilot, the only person in the helicopter, survived the crash, which happened about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday about six miles east of Pixley.
The Tulare County Sheriff's Office and emergency personnel responded to the crash scene on Avenue 80 and Road 176 and found the pilot. He told responders he was fine and was able to crawl out of the aircraft without being badly injured.
Deputies found the helicopter wreckage about 200 yards north of the road in the middle of an almond orchard.
