A cadet affiliated with the Fresno Police Department is recovering and in good spirits after being shot Monday afternoon at the department’s gun range, Lt. Joe Gomez said Thursday.
The cadet was shot by another cadet as both were finishing gun training with the Fresno City College Police Academy at the Police Department’s Regional Training facility near West Hayes and South Central avenues.
Fresno police allow other agencies use of the training facility.
Cadets were cleaning their guns when one cadet accidentally fired a round. The other cadet was struck in the pelvis. The cadet who fired the gun is not affiliated with any law enforcement agency.
Gomez said the department is treating the shooting as an accident and is not conducting a criminal investigation.
