A 68-year-old woman sustained major injuries and was booked on charges of driving under the influence in a deadly Saturday night crash in Madera Ranchos, the California Highway Patrol reported Monday.
The driver of the other vehicle in the head-on collision on Avenue 12 in front of Liberty High School, identified Monday by the Madera County coroner’s office as 48-year-old Charles William Catino of Madera, died at the scene.
The CHP said the crash took place about 10:50 p.m. as Jennifer McPherson of Madera was westbound in a 2015 Chevrolet pickup at a speed of about 65 mph. McPherson’s truck crossed into the eastbound lane and smashed into Catino’s Mercury Villager van. McPherson was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
The CHP said Monday the case remains under investigation.
