Hugo J. Loza of Visalia has been appointed as a judge of Tulare County Superior Court by Gov. Jerry Brown.
Loza, 63, has served as a court commissioner since 1995 and deputy public defender in Tulare County from 1980 to 1995.
Loza has a law degree from University of California, Hastings College of the Law and a bachelor of science degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
He fills a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Joseph Kalashian.
