Glacier Point Road in Yosemite National Park will open for the season at 6 a.m. Saturday, but high-elevation Tioga Road remains closed, park officials said Friday.
It’s the earliest opening for Glacier Point Road since the park began posting records in 1995. The median opening date since then is May 24, and last year’s April 14 opening was the earliest in the then-20-year history.
Bridalveil Creek Campground will open within the next several weeks.
Visitor services, such as restrooms, will be fully operational at Glacier Point, Yosemite reported Friday. Visitors are urged to drive slowly and with caution, as wildlife may be present on or near the roadway.
There is no estimate yet on when the park will reopen Tioga Road, the east-west trans-Sierra route. For road and weather information, call (209) 372-0200.
