The Valley will receive a brief respite from last week’s record-breaking heat with highs forecast in the low 70s before higher temperatures return.
Brian Ochs, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford, said a low-pressure system making its way over Northern California will give way to breezy weather Sunday through Tuesday. Sunday’s forecast high for Fresno is 76, and the highs for Monday and Tuesday are expected to hit 72. The lows for this three-day span are expected to be in the high 40s to low 50s.
Once a high pressure system returns to the Valley on Wednesday, temperatures are expected to increase to the mid-80s. “We’ll probably see some well above-average weather like we saw last week,” Ochs said.
Merced and other northern Valley cities have slight chances of rainfall Sunday night, but don’t expect that to trickle down to the South Valley, Ochs said.
