The National Alliance on Mental Illness in Fresno is hosting a panel discussion on Laura’s Law from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3973 N. Cedar Ave.
Laura’s Law allows courts to order people with serious mental illness to accept assisted outpatient treatment as a condition of living in the community. It also allows courts to order the mental health system to provide treatment.
Counties have the option to implement Laura’s Law. The panel will discuss whether assisted outpatient treatment would be appropriate for Fresno County. The panel will include representatives from the courts, behavioral health, law enforcement, patients rights advocates, families and mental-health clients.
