A Coalinga man crashed his Harley Davidson motorcycle into the side of an Amtrak passenger train southeast of Madera on Monday afternoon.
The California Highway Patrol said Robert Semple, 67, sustained moderate injuries from the crash. Semple was traveling west along Avenue 12 at an unknown speed when he failed to stop at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks crossing around 2 p.m. The CHP said Semple lost control of his motorcycle and then crashed into the train, which was traveling southbound around 70 miles per hour.
The CHP said all lights, signs and crossing arms at the tracks were working properly at the time of the collision. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
Semple was taken to Madera Community Hospital. The accident remains under investigation.
