A Clovis man in his late 70s accidentally drove his SUV through his garage, living room, back yard and into his neighbor’s house Thursday afternoon, police said.
The accident happened just after 4 p.m. on Portals Avenue near Pistachio Avenue, just east of Lamonica Stadium at Clovis High School.
Police spokeswoman Janet Stoll-Lee said alcohol was not a factor. She said the man, who was not identified, hit the accelerator instead of the brake. He was the only person hurt, suffering a cut lip.
Neither home is habitable. The gas heater at the neighbor’s house was hit, forcing Clovis firefighters to shut off gas to that home. A tow-truck driver was able to pull the 2002 Ford Explorer back to Portals along the path it followed into the neighbor’s home.
