A driver is dead after his small transport truck hit a parked truck and caught fire Tuesday afternoon, Visalia police said.
The fiery crash happened about 2:15 p.m. on West Caldwell Avenue, just west of Akers Street.
Sgt. Damon Maurice said it appears the truck was headed west when the driver failed to merge from two lanes into one lane and collided with a parked Southern California Edison truck engaged in repairs.
Traffic on Caldwell is being rerouted in both directions, and the road will remain closed until at least 6 p.m., Maurice said. The victim’s body was still in the small truck as of mid-afternoon awaiting removal, and as of 3:45 p.m. the Tulare County coroner was at the scene.
