Agricultural thieves hit a Sanger-area citrus grower hard as a result of the recent port strike, and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is asking help locating stolen tangelos.
Spokesman Tony Botti said the grower, who farms near Highway 180 and Thompson Avenue, delayed picking his tangelos because he couldn’t export them during the strike. He left them on the trees and crooks made off with about 2,500 pounds of produce. Tangelos have a deeper-orange color than other citrus and a distinctive nub on top. Anyone who sees such fruit should call the Fresno County Sheriff’s Ag Crime Unit at (559) 498-STOP.
