A man was found dead early Thursday after a fire at his home in the Fresno County mountain community of Big Creek, fire officials said.
The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner's Office identified the man as Scott Newquist, 58.
Deputies went to the home in the 55000 block of Jungle Ton Lane to assist volunteers and Cal Fire and U.S. Forest Service firefighters in the investigation.
Sheriff's homicide detectives conducted an investigation. The body was removed from the scene about noon.

Fire investigators had not established a cause for the fire, and it was not known whether Newquist died before or during the blaze, the sheriff's office said.
