The Visalia Police Department is accepting applications for this year’s Citizens Police Academy, a 10-week course to train Visalia residents to become police volunteers.
After completing the course and a background investigation, members will be sworn in as a police volunteer.
Some of the duties include administrative and office functions as well as field operations such as community events, parades, traffic control, and DUI checkpoints.
There will be an informational meeting on Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. at City Hall Council Chambers, 707 W. Acequia Ave.
Classes are scheduled to begin in March 2015. Applications are available through Jan. 30 at police headquarters, 303 S. Johnson St.; at the department’s District 1 office, 204 N.W. Third Ave.; or at the District 2 office, 4100 S. County Center Drive.
