Fresno County is hosting the 2014 San Joaquin Valley Regional Association of California Counties Conference Wednesday through Friday at the Harris Ranch Inn and Restaurant, near the intersection of Highway 198 and Interstate 5 east of Coalinga.
This year’s conference theme is “Growing our Future” and features Karen Ross, California Department of Agriculture Secretary, as Wednesday night’s keynote speaker. Fresno State President Joseph Castro is the keynote speaker for Thursday’s luncheon.
The conference is a regional assembly of nine San Joaquin counties — Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tulare. The primary role of the conference is to improve communication among San Joaquin Valley officials and encourage cooperation on important issues facing the region.
In addition, Fresno County supervisors will lead 20 panelists in discussing issues including water and natural resources, economic development, education, health care and the Affordable Care Act, public safety and state budget and legislative updates.
